About Nathan

Nathan Shoesmith FRSA is a strategic young leader who transforms complex ideas into meaningful insights that empower change.

Based in the North West of England, Nathan is a graduate of Management, Politics and International Relations from Lancaster University. Having started out in local government working on emerging economic sectors, Nathan currently works as a Consultant on social, economic development and regeneration projects at social enterprise GC Insight. He is the Insights and Analysis Lead for innovative data tool Growth Flag, and leads on its strategic insights and external comms across the UK.A multi-award winning social entrepreneur, Nathan co-founded The Speaker, a digital media non-profit in 2018 which sought to inspire the next generation in politics through impartial, explanatory coverage and educational resources. Through charitable and social impact projects, Nathan has raised awareness, provided advisory, and led the raising of over £12,000 for important causes.A skilled communicator, Nathan is regularly asked to deliver talks and has experiences across local and national events, conferences and broadcast mediums. In 2021, Nathan co-authored his first book, 2020 As It Happened, featuring adapted reporting and analysis of the unprecedented year of events, in association with The Speaker. In 2022, Nathan authored ‘Brain Injuries: Our Hidden Journeys’ – a charitable book raising awareness of the often hidden challenges faced by acquired brain injury survivors. In 2025, Nathan delivered a TEDx talk entitled 'Transforming ideas to impact in a confusing, changing world'.Nathan was featured by The Independent in their 2019 Happy List as one of “50 of the most inspirational people whose kindness, ingenuity and bravery have made Britain a better place to live”. In 2021, Nathan was awarded in name and memory of Diana, Princess of Wales, receiving the highest accolade a young person can receive for social action or humanitarian efforts. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts, and in 2025 was named the Institute of Economic Development's 'iED Rising Star of the Year'.
